The Tower #16

Letting go. Necessary and refreshing change. The destruction of cannons.
'La Torre' (The Tower) is card #16 of the 'Glenda's Tarot' digital work by Glenda Leon.
Birds that once looked like leaves from a tree suddenly fly out. A sudden frightening bolt of lightning serves to break inertia and meet with the house. Thus, this card represents letting go, getting out of what we were comfortable with, and freeing ourselves from affective or material ties as a result of an unexpected situation. It is spiritual elevation, the flight of reason, an overflow of happiness and freedom. A necessary, refreshing change. It also represents the destruction of canons, the end of a power source, of what seemed to always be successful and now crumbles. The relative and volatile parts of existence.
Tarot - The practice of tarot emerged in Italy around the 15th century as a form of entertainment, which later spread to much of Europe. The Major Arcana are 22 individual numbered cards, each one represented by a character or symbol, such as the Fool, Death, and the Wheel of Fortune, among others. Before the emergence of the printing press, tarot cards were illustrated by hand, being commissioned by artists as if they were a pictorial or sculptural work. This tradition has continued throughout history, and more recently, we have seen recreations of tarot designs made by artists such as Salvador Dalí, Leonora Carrington, Remedios Varo, among other artists who have been attracted to the deep mysticism around the subject and the visual impact of tarot cards.
