The Moon #18

el colgado 12 513x893

Letting go. A necessary and refreshing change. The destruction of cannons.

'La Luna' (The Moon) is card #18 of the 'Glenda's Tarot' digital work by Glenda Leon.

A recently clipped nail falls on black background, instantly becoming a moon. Afterward, you hear the sound of an ordinary task, filing nails. The dust falls becoming stars. When was the first time we saw this action? Most of the time the answer is in the mother. The moon as many know is a maternal symbol, the role mothers play in our lives. The moon and stars fall, the opposite of our elevated perception, this relates to the exchange of energy between the sky and earth. Challenge of reason: a nail is the moon. Our composition is very similar to the celestial bodies, only the proportions and states of the matters make the difference.

Long nails are a symbol of femininity, here they are cut and become the moon, almost as an offering. Maybe as a sign of cutting links with the mother that unconsciously impedes us from acting to our full potential.

Tarot - The practice of tarot emerged in Italy around the 15th century as a form of entertainment, which later spread to much of Europe. The Major Arcana are 22 individual numbered cards, each one represented by a character or symbol, such as the Fool, Death, and the Wheel of Fortune, among others. Before the emergence of the printing press, tarot cards were illustrated by hand, being commissioned by artists as if they were a pictorial or sculptural work. This tradition has continued throughout history, and more recently, we have seen recreations of tarot designs made by artists such as Salvador Dalí, Leonora Carrington, Remedios Varo, among other artists who have been attracted to the deep mysticism around the subject and the visual impact of tarot cards.
